If you didn’t see it, James was on The Weather Channel last night and did a great job as the spokesman against idea of out-of-control manmade global warming. See a link to the video in a post below.
Roll the DVR’s again. Now it’s my turn to be on The Weather Channel! This Saturday, at some point between 10 am and 11 am central time, I will be live on The Weather Channel on the show “Weekend Now”, with Carl Parker and Heather Tesch. I will be discussing some of our new tornado research at UAH, including the effects of gravity waves, mountains, and friction on tornadoes. I may discuss storms like the Birmingham tornado of April 8, 1998, the Guntersville tornado of April 10, 2009, and the Panama City Beach tornado of 2004. For more on this research, see a recent NWS presentation here. I was interviewed recently by WALA-TV 10 in Mobile, and that video is here.
This is a great opportunity for me to represent the UAH Atmospheric Science program, that has quietly become one of the top programs in the country, and I am proud to be a part of it. We are currently trying to understand some of the smaller-scale processes that may cause one supercell to produce a tornado, while others do not, eventually helping National Weather Service forecasters to know what storms may be more likely to produce a tornado.
