Scattered thunderstorms were around the area this afternoon and, in the heat of the day, they were becoming stronger. Just over the border in East Mississippi, the NWS issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for three NE Mississippi counties, including the Starkville area.
Here in Alabama, no warnings so far, but the NWS did issue Significant Weather Alerts for several East-Central Alabama counties. A slow-moving storm in Tallapoosa County is believed to have dumped more than 2 inches of rain on the Alexander City area.
The thunderstorms were a bit more numerous over East-Central Alabama, but some others were forming over East Jefferson, South St. Clair and NE Shelby Counties, as well as over the NW counties. We will watch them closely, because there is an outside chance that we could have one or two severe thunderstorm warnings at some point this afternoon. They will diminish this evening.
