At 3:30 p.m., there were still no thunderstorms within a 35-mile radius of Birmingham, but some could form any minute.

We now turn our attention to our north and NW where a line of thunderstorms extended all the way from the NE corner of the state, east of Scottsboro, southwestward to between Huntsville and Guntersville and then to Winston County and extreme north parts of Lamar and Fayette Counties. This line of storms was moving toward the SE.

The National Weather Service/Huntsville posted a Significant Weather Alert for North Cullman and SE Morgan Counties until 4:00 based on that line of thunderstorms. Wind gusts up to 40 mph, heavy downpours and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning (always very dangerous). This line of storms will affect these communities among others:

Hartselle
Valhermoso Springs
Leesdale
Falkville
Lacon
Florette

A Significant Weather Alert was also posted for Eastern Jackson County. Those storms will move across North DeKalb County and into NW Georgia.

There are other widely separated storms across the state, but those are the more prominent ones over the north. An isolated separate storm was located east of Gadsden. There was also a good array of showers and thunderstorms over extreme SW Alabama, including Mobile, Baldwin, Washington and part of Clarke Counties.
