I nominate today as one of the top five best weather days, if not the best weather day ever in Birmingham!
My nomination is based on a slow, steady, all day soaking rain that didn’t cause serious flooding, as well as a breezy northeast wind that averaged 12-22 mph with gusts to 30 mph.
What’s your favorite or most memorable Birmingham weather day of all time?
SIDE NOTE
Today’s rainfall at the Birmingham Airport stands at 3.59 inches, bringing our annual total to 64.14 inches. This makes 2009 the 17th wettest year in Magic City history. The present storm total stands at 3.88 inches. As of 6:01 p.m. CST tonight, it had been raining continuously for 24 hours.
It looks like a couple of Thanksgiving Week storms could bring us another 2-4 inches of rain. Four inches would propel us into 6th place. Then a normal amount of rain in December could put us in 4th place all time! The wettest year in Birmingham history is 1929, when 81.82 inches of rain fell.
