Anyone remember the song by Kool and the Gang?
“Oh, it’s too hot (too hot)
Too hot, lady (too hot)
Gotta run for shelter
Gotta run for shade
It’s too hot (too hot)
Too hot, lady (too hot)
Gotta cool this anger
What a mess we made
So long ago
You were my love
Oh, my love”
Yep, it is too hot today. Most spots are in the 95 to 99 degree range this afternoon, and no doubt a few spots will touch 100 before the day is done. In fact, the 2:00 observation set just arrived and Montgomery has soared to 101, and is the hot spot in the state. But, the good news is that this is the worst of the heat, and temperatures will begin to back down tomorrow a bit tomorrow with most spots in the mid 90s. We will mention some risk of a shower or storm late tomorrow or tomorrow night as a surface front approaches.
WEEKEND OUTLOOK: That front will stall out near the Alabama/Tennessee border, meaning a decent chance of scattered showers and storms Saturday, with a high around 90 degrees. Some spots could stay below 90 where showers form early in the afternoon. The 12Z GFS tries to push drier air into North Alabama Sunday, but for now we will maintain a chance of scattered showers and storms on Sunday since fronts rarely move south of I-20 in July.
NEXT WEEK: For now it looks like routine summer weather next week, with partly sunny days, highs in the low 90s, and the risk of an afternoon shower or storm in a few spots.
TROPICS: The tropical depression over the Southwest Gulf of Mexico moved inland late this morning before reaching tropical storm strength, so we are still waiting on Bonnie to show up. The main impact is heavy rain over South Texas and Northeast Mexico. The rest of the Atlantic basin for now is rather quiet.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
