An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

REMARKABLE RAIN EVENT: Scroll down for the play by play on last night and this morning’s flood event over parts of Jefferson, Shelby, and St. Clair counties. Looks like we are going to have some spots with over 7 inches of rain; will be very interesting to see J.B.’s rain total at his place (J.B. is with me in Starkville at Mississippi State for the annual Southeast Severe Storm Symposium). We will run down a full list of rain totals here a little later this morning. Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the estimated storm totals from the Birmingham NEXRAD.

The flash flood warning expired at 5:30 this morning, but the NWS has posted a flash flood watch for all of North-Central Alabama through midnight tonight. Additional flooding won’t be widespread, but with the ground now so saturated, that is a good call. Keep in mind while we had the big time rain in spots last night, it was rather localized, and some Alabama communities had only a trace of rain. It has been that way pretty much through the week.

PICTURES: If you have pictures of flood waters this morning, we could love to see them… send them to [email protected].

THE WEEKEND: I wish I would tell you something different, but the weather simply won’t be changing much over the weekend. Copious amounts of moisture remain, and with a broad surface and upper low to the west, scattered to numerous showers and storms will remain in the forecast through Sunday. Like recent days, the rain won’t be continuous, and it won’t rain all day. But, the tropical showers could come at any hour of the day or night.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: The chance of any one high school stadium getting wet tonight is about one in three, so rain gear is in order. The sky will be mostly cloudy, and temperatures will hover in the upper 70s during the games. Tomorrow, North Texas is at Alabama (11:30 kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium); the a passing shower or thunderstorm is likely during the game, with temperatures hovering around 80 at kickoff, possible reaching the low to mid 80s during the game. Auburn will host West Virginia tomorrow night (6:45 p.m. kickoff at Jordan-Hare Stadium); that game will be played under a cloudy sky with the risk of a few showers. And, UAB is at Troy tomorrow afternoon (1:30 p.m. kickoff); showers or storms are possible during the game with temperatures in the low 80s at kickoff.

NEXT WEEK: The idea of cooler and drier air late next week is off the table. A cut-off upper low will form over the nation’s mid-section, with the Polar jet remaining up in Canada. Unfortunately this means we stay in moist air all week, with occasional showers and storms Monday through Friday. No doubt we will have more flooding problems along the way. The idea of building an Ark might not be a bad one.

LONG RANGE: That first good cold front of the fall season will come one day, but no sign of it in global modeling through early October for now. And, no sign of any tropical trouble. That is a good thing.
