Lots of folks want to know what to expect over North Central sections of the state for the remainder of the afternoon and evening.
Showers and storms continue over Central Alabama from Walker and Jefferson Counties back through Walker, Fayette, Tuscalosa and Bibb Counties.
The activity is moving NE
It is not severe, but it does contain lightning and very heavy rains. Strong gusty winds have been occurring over the area, even outside the storms. A lake wind advisory is in effect.
The cold front is still back over western Mississippi. There is some clearing over Central sections of Mississippi where dewpoints are still in the upper 60s. There could redevelopment back to our west this afternoon and we will have to watch for that, but the chances look small at this time.
There are lots of proms and other actviities scheduled for tonight across the area and I know parents are concerned. I think that we will be alright in areas north and west of a Butler… Linden… Clanton… Ashland line should be ok. There will be showers and storms and some of them could be severe, but the better chance will be south and east of that area.
South of that, the instability is greater and will have to be watched with more concern the further south you go.
A note over South Central Alabama: Lowndes County is under a tornado warning, and the warning will likely be extended into Montgomery. Strong rotation over Fostoria in Lowndes County moving toward Mosses.
The big supercell storm that has a history of producing tornadoes is bearing down on the Montgomery area and will head along and north of I-85 as it moves northeast. It will continue to be severe for a long time.
