JUST LIKE SUMMER: Get used to this very warm and muggy weather… we are the doorsteps of the long, hot Alabama summer that will feature weather just like this through early September (of course, with hotter afternoons along the way). Our weather won’t change much tomorrow; partly sunny with a high in the 87 to 90 degree range. Some communities near the Mississippi border could even reach the low 90s. Certainly one of the warmest days so far this year.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: A decaying front will drift down into North Alabama late Friday or Friday night, then becoming stationary around I-20 over the weekend. This will bring the risk of a few scattered showers all three days; the best chance of showers Friday will be over the northern third of the state, with the chances dropping south a bit on Saturday and Sunday. While some rain is certainly possible, if not likely, over the weekend, the rain won’t be continuous, and we don’t expect wash-out conditions. Just be ready for a few passing showers. The weekend will remain warm and humid with highs well up in the 80s.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: We still expect a general increase in the number of showers and storms early next week, especially Monday afternoon and Monday night, and a short wave approaches from the west. This looks like we might pick up 1/2 to 1 inch of rain before dry air begins to edge into the state Tuesday afternoon. The rest of the week looks warm and dry.

VOODOO LAND: The GFS continues to suggest ridging aloft will be the story for the last two weeks of May, meaning you can expect above average temperatures and below average rainfall. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
