WARMEST SO FAR IN 2011: We are still projecting a high in the low 80s this afternoon… well above the average high of 68, but below the record high of 88 (set on this date in 1982). A nice summer preview.
OUR WEEKEND: Warm and dry weather continues tomorrow with a partly to mostly sunny sky. A weak surface front will dissipate over extreme North Alabama… it might drop temperatures a few degrees over the Tennessee Valley, but we don’t expect any impact down this way with a high near 80.
Sunday’s potential issue is a CAD setup to the east; cold air over the northeast U.S. will drain down the mountains, and that could very well bring come clouds and cooler temperatures to extreme East Alabama. For places like Gaylesville, Heflin, and Wedowee, the day could feature cloudy periods with a high close to 70. But, for the rest of us, the high will stay close to 80 degrees with a partly sunny sky.
NEXT WEEK: Not much change on Monday and Tuesday… warm and dry with a high near 80. A weak cold front should slip through here Wednesday night with just the risk of a few showers, followed by cooler air on Thursday and Friday. The coldest air will remain to the northeast of here, and a freeze is not expected for now with highs in the 67-72 degree range and lows mostly in the 40s.
VOODOO LAND: The pattern continues to suggest a pretty decent cold snap around the first of April as the NAO goes negative and an upper trough forms over the eastern third of the nation. See the Weather Xtreme video for more ideas… just too early to be specific.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
