I hope everyone remembered to set those clocks ahead one hour as Daylight Savings Time began at 2 am today. We’ll get that one hour of lost sleep back in November – or perhaps in an afternoon nap later today!!
If you liked yesterday, you are going to like today – and Monday and Tuesday! Looks like we stay warm and dry into the middle of the week as an upper level short wave and closed low makes it way ever so slowly eastward. Today a large portion of Texas will be in an area where there is a risk of hail and damaging wind. The risk of severe weather might continue into Monday, but there are many uncertainties relative to that closed low and the evolution of the surface pattern.
As the closed low comes out of Texas on Wednesday it will be weakening, so I really expect to see clouds with a scattered shower situation. I think it is highly probable that some people may not get any rain at all in the Wednesday/Thursday time frame. But by Friday the trough on the East Coast begins to deepen and sharpen bringing a return of cold air to the eastern seaboard. We’ll cool down with highs next weekend in the upper 50s and lower 60s and morning lows in the 30s. So certainly a cool down but not an extremely cold event.
In the longer term, the GFS is forecasting a big ridge across the eastern half of the country keeping the weather across the Southeast US warm and dry. But toward the end of the cycle the model solutions suggest a large scale trough on the West Coast with a strong system coming out of the Southwest US. So the main theme for the next couple of weeks appears to be warm and dry. And the dry is getting to be a concern with rainfall in March well below normal values so far.
