QUIET PATTERN: Alabama’s weather will be rain-free through the weekend with warm afternoons and pleasant nights. Highs will be in the 80s, lows will be in the upper 50s and low 60s.
Heat levels rise next week, and most places will see 90 degree heat again Tuesday through Friday. With an upper ridge overhead, much of the week will be dry with just a few spotty showers near the Gulf Coast. TROPICS: We have two tropical storms on the board this morning, but both are junk, short lived systems. Fay is in the middle of the Atlantic, and will dissipate far from land tomorrow. Gonzalo is in the far eastern Atlantic, and will dissipate over the weekend as it gains latitude.
No tropical storms or hurricanes are expected near the Gulf for at least the next 7-10 days.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: UAB has a Friday night special this week… the Blazers host Navy this evening (6:00p CT kickoff at Protective Stadium). The sky will be clear with temperatures falling from near 80 at kickoff into the 70s during the second half.
Auburn hosts Vandy tomorrow (3:15p CT kickoff at Jordan-Hare)… the sky will be sunny with temperatures in the low to mid 80s.
Alabama will play South Carolina tomorrow night in Tuscaloosa (6:00p CT kickoff at Bryant-Denny)… expect a clear sky with temperatures falling from the low 80s at kickoff into the 70s during the second half.
Jacksonville State, Alabama State, North Alabama, and Samford all have home games; tomorrow will be dry statewide with a high in the 80s… temperatures come down into the 70s soon after sunset.
ON THIS DATE IN 1998: Four hurricanes were spinning simultaneously in the Atlantic basin: Georges, Ivan, Jeanne, and Karl. That was the first time this had happened since 1893.
ON THIS DATE IN 2005: The remnants of Hurricane Rita, winds above the surface, saturated low level conditions and instability all combined to produce several tornadoes in a narrow band across West and Northwest Alabama. A total of 21 tornadoes were confirmed from the mid afternoon hours through the mid evening hours; ten of those in Tuscaloosa County. There were two injuries near Buhl in western Tuscaloosa County.
