SUMMER-LIKE WEEKEND: I guess everybody has a different definition of “hot”… for me it means highs in the 90s. We will be close to that this weekend, but most places should see a high in the 87-90 degree range as we get a good preview of summer through Sunday. To many it will feel “hot”, but it won’t be like the blast furnace days of late July and August around here. While humidity values will be creeping up, most places in Alabama will be dry thanks to an upper ridge overhead. A shower or two might show up near the Tennessee border, but the main action remains to the northwest, where strong to severe storms will be possible over states like Arkansas.
NEXT WEEK: Not much change Monday and Tuesday; highs in the upper 80s, very humid, and just a small risk of an afternoon shower. The next organized rain event comes during the latter half of the week; watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 00Z GFS suggests the storms will be Thursday or Thursday night, with some potential for strong to severe storms. Nothing like April 27, of course… that was generational. But I am well aware this state will be on edge for a while. Then, drier air arrives by Friday and the following weekend.
LONG RANGE: The month of June begins with a big 5880 meter ridge over much of the southern U.S… meaning hot weather with only isolated afternoon showers. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.
HANGOUT MUSIC FESTIVAL: Perfect weather down at Gulf Shores for those headed down for the Hangout Music Festival this weekend; sunny days, fair nights, and no chance of rain. Afternoon highs along the immediate coast will be in the low 80s, and the sea water temperature along the Alabama coast is generally in the mid 70s. You can see our Gulf Shores SKYCAM images and data anytime here.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
