That theme I mentioned yesterday – dry – sure looks firmly entrenched for Central Alabama for perhaps as much as the next 10 to 14 days. This morning, the surface low and associated upper low that were located over the western Carolinas have moved northward in tandem with Kyle, but it has left a weak trough. A few clouds were noted this morning in East Central Alabama with that trough, but I think those clouds will be heading out so we should all see plenty of sun along with temperatures in the middle 80s – a few spots edging into the upper 80s.
Monday will be a great day with lots of sun. A front will be approaching late Monday and moving through the state on Tuesday. While there will be some instability with the front, enough to support showers, there is going to be very little moisture to work with, so I really think that we’ll stay dry.
The front will usher in cooler and drier air with our coolest morning expected to be on Thursday morning. It looks like there will be a reinforcing shot of cool, dry air late Thursday which should pave the way for a beautiful Fall weekend for the races at Talladega next weekend. The ridge to our west inches closer with a big surface high centered over the Ohio and Tennessee River valleys keeping us in a dry pattern with cool mornings and mild afternoon.
Kyle became a hurricane yesterday but should drop back to a tropical storm today as it moves toward Nova Scotia and the colder water of the North Atlantic. It will become extratropical Monday as it brings a good deal of rain to the Canadian Maritimes.
An area of disturbed weather was located over the Yucatan Peninsula and the Northwest Caribbean, and slow development of this area may occur during the next couple of days. Even if no tropical storm forms, it will bring heavy rain to Cuba and South Florida over the next couple of days.
Longer range GFS model output suggests a fairly active pattern with a trough over the eastern half of the country again around the 9th and 10th and another around the 12th. The one on the 9th could be dry again while there is some sign for rain around the 12th. But that is a long way out with much likelihood for change before then.
