An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below and on iTunes.

Much of the Central US is plagued with winter weather today, but the Southeast and Central Alabama are enjoying some very warm weather and a forecast that is almost reminiscent of summertime. Moisture increased dramatically over the last 24 hours, so we have a good deal of fog across the state this morning. And with all of the moisture in place, an isolated shower or two are not out of the question over the next several days. However, I expect most of us to remain dry.

Our weather pattern remains stuck through mid-week. The Southeast is under a strong ridge while a deep trough hangs over the Southwest US. That low/trough finally begins to come out on Tuesday and Wednesday. But as it does, it weakens rapidly. The result is that a surface low will travel by to the north of Alabama dragging a weak front through the state on Thursday. After that, cold air once again invades the Southeast. It will seem really cold but it really just gets us back to temperature values more typical of early December.

And in the long range, another weak weather system zips by around Thursday, December 20th. But after that the GFS is forecasting a fairly flat zonal pattern for the southern tier of the US with no major weather systems to deal with. And we still need the rain badly, but at this moment in time, there is no rain relief in sight. But you know the voodoo picture can change, so stay tuned.

Thank you for reading/watching the Weather Xtreme Video. I should have the next one posted by 8 am Sunday morning. I’m looking forward to taking the Storm Chaser to Altoona this evening for their annual Christmas parade. Have a great weekend, and God bless.

PS Shameless plug: I’m also narrating the Christmas choir and handbell program at my church, Helena United Methodist, on Sunday evening at 7 pm, so everyone is invited to experience the sounds of Christmas. Helena United Methodist is located on CR 58 in Helena.
