Central Alabama continued to enjoy a nice warm spell with yesterday’s temperatures well into the 70s and overnight lows dipping only back to near 60 which is about 20 degrees above what we typically expect for early March. Looks like the warmth is going to continue to roll along for us with a strong upper air ridge keeping traveling weather systems away.
A frontal system just to the north and west will be with us for the foreseeable future and could bring a scattered shower to the northwest sections of Alabama, but I think Central Alabama stays essentially dry probably into Wednesday. I’d characterize the sky as mostly cloudy but we’ll see some sunshine each day.
By mid-week another strong upper level trough will be swinging by, and it appears likely that this one will have enough push to drag a front into the area. The front will settle in and stall keeping us mostly cloudy with off and on shower chances through Saturday. By Saturday a strong short wave should give the weather pattern a nice kick and move the front out of the area clearing the way for a nice Sunday. Temperatures will dip back a bit with the frontal zone in the area combining with clouds and some rain chances to keep temperatures above average – lows in the lower 40s and highs around 60 or so.
At the moment there does not appear to be any serious threat of severe weather for Central Alabama with this current set up. But with a front in our area it will pay to be vigilant since the details are always in the smaller scale.
Yesterday the voodoo projections showed another cold core upper low with a potential winter weather event for Alabama. Well, the closed upper low is not gone but the solution is quite different with the low further north of us and a rain event only for Alabama. Fun to watch but it was a fairly sure bet that it would change dramatically. Another storm system promises another rain event for the latter part of March.
