Look for a nice warmup today as the surface high pressure moves off to our east allowing moisture and warmth to return. There should be a 10 to 12 degree improvement in the afternoon highs today as compared to yesterday. The Birmingham Airport hit a high of 59 yesterday and should see a high in the lower 70s today with lots of sun.
Sunshine continues Sunday with another warm day as highs again climb into the 70s. But we begin to see a transition Sunday afternoon and evening as an upper level short wave heads our way from the Rockies. The short wave should arrive late Monday bringing rain chances and the potential for an isolated thunderstorm or two to the area beginning late Monday afternoon and continuing into the morning Tuesday. As the short wave moves steadily eastward, the rain chances should drop off by noon time with the possibility of some sun by afternoon.
With the upper trough east of us by Tuesday afternoon, we come under an upper ridge along with surface high pressure which will keep us dry through the end of the week and into the weekend. This should provide us with some great spring break weather after we get by the Monday/Tuesday event. For those who might be headed to the coast, it looks like highs down there will be primarily in the mid and upper 70s for much of the week.
Good weather seems likely as we head into voodoo country. The next potent weather system for good rain chances holds off until around the 27th or 28th. Central Alabama has had two wet events that has essentially wiped out the rainfall deficit for 2011 and giving us a surplus of a little over one inch.
