Elevated storms continue to lift northeastward over Central Alabama ahead of a warm front. They have weakened and the severe weather threat has temporarily diminished.

However…as the low level jet fires up overnight, storms will fire over Central Mississippi into West Central Alabama.

In anticipation of intensifying storms, the Storm Prediction Center says they may issue a new severe weather watch into West Central and Central Alabama. This watch would most likely be a tornado watch.

So the severe weather threat is still very real for Central Alabama later tonight.

And the models continue to paint a pessimistic picture for Saturday, with severe storms expected to develop during the afternoon. The evening run of the NAM shows an afternoon high of 81F at Birmingham with a dewpoint of 68. This is much warmer than earlier runs and will result in much higher instability.

With a significant amount of wind shear present, storms will rotate. This will set the stage for significant severe weather with the possibility of long track supercells and tornadoes.

Review your severe weather safety plan now and make sure you have a reliable way to receive severe weather information and warnings through Saturday night.
