The National Weather Service plans to let the Severe Thunderstorm Watch expire on schedule at 7:00 p.m. However, there were still some strong thunderstorms right in the heart of Central Alabama and a few over the Tennessee Valley.

There is still an outside chance that a few wet microbursts could occur, but those will be handled by individual warnings, if they do.

It is the time of day when the thunderstorms should gradually lose their punch because of loss of daytime heating.

Just before 7:00, those stronger thunderstorms were moving almost due south to Eastern Perry, Southern Chilton and spreading into Dallas and Augauga Counties.

Looking back over the day, one report of severe weather we have not mentioned yet. The EMA in Calhoun County reported multiple trees and power lines down at 5:45 p.m. in the Oxford area. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was in effect at the time.

Finally, one of our ABC skywatchers, probably speaks for a lot of people. Chuck Biddinger said late this afternoon that, “For the last five weeks, rains have gone all around my house on Parkway East in Birmingham. So, you can be correct in your forecast, if you just say a zero chance of rain and storms on Parkway East in Roebuck.” Chuck says he is thinking about planting cactus in his yard.

Unless something unusual happens, we may not issue an additional update until after 8 o’clock.
