RECORDS BROKEN OR TIED
* The official temperature at Pinson in NE Jefferson County reached 100 this afternoon. It was the highest ever on this date. The old record was 96 in 1955. Even more important, it was the highest ever recorded this late in the year.
James Price is the official NWS Cooperative Observer for Pinson. He has kept weather records at the same spot in Pinson for almost 60 years. This is especially good to have the records in the same location. I have known James for 40 years or so, and I don’t know any one more dedicated to the cause..
* 98 was the high at Birmingham Airport this afternoon. This tied the record for September 21 set way back in 1925.
* Alabama suffered through two super heat waves in September 1925 and again only two years later in September, 1927.
