**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today due to travel; will get back to the regular two a day schedule Monday**

RIGHT NOW: Showers and storms are forming rather quickly across Alabama this afternoon, and we continue to advise that you take the rain gear to high school football games tonight. The chance of any one spot getting wet is about one in three, and a few heavy downpours are not out of the question.

THE WEEKEND: Just about all dynamic models show a very good coverage of showers and storms tomorrow statewide. It won’t rain all day, but the rain could come at any time, and some spots will see heavy amounts of rain. Moist air hangs around Sunday with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be mostly in the low 80s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: The chance of any one high school stadium getting wet tonight is about one in three, so rain gear is in order. The sky will be mostly cloudy, and temperatures will hover in the upper 70s during the games. Tomorrow, North Texas is at Alabama (11:30 kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium); the a passing shower or thunderstorm is likely during the game, with temperatures hovering around 80 at kickoff, possible reaching the low to mid 80s during the game. Auburn will host West Virginia tomorrow night (6:45 p.m. kickoff at Jordan-Hare Stadium); that game will be played under a cloudy sky with the risk of a few showers. And, UAB is at Troy tomorrow afternoon (1:30 p.m. kickoff); showers or storms are possible during the game with temperatures in the low 80s at kickoff.

NEXT WEEK: No change next week. A new upper low develops over the nation’s mid-section, and we will remain in a very moist environment with the daily chance of occasional showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be mostly in the low to mid 80s, and I am afraid we will have some pockets of flash flooding along the way as the ground is now very saturated. The Polar jet will remain in Canada, well north of the solution the GFS offered early this week.

VOODOO LAND: We are seeing some hint of an upper trough over the eastern half of the nation now around October 4 (based on the 12Z GFS), but the ensembles don’t give us much hope for any major shot of cool and dry air anytime soon. We will probably have to wait until October for the first good front of the fall season to arrive.

TROPICS: NHC has flagged a tropical wave about midway between the coast of Africa and the Lesser Antilles for a medium change of development in coming days; we will keep an eye on it; the rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
