RIGHT NOW: A nice band of showers and storms runs down from Huntsville to Smith Lake to Columbus, Mississippi as I write this around 5:30 this morning. Nothing severe, and really not that much lightning. This band of showers and storms will steadily move eastward this morning, and it looks like the rain will taper off during the midday hours as drier air works into the state. The sky will become mostly clear tonight.
TOMORROW THROUGH SATURDAY: Looks like these three days will be mostly dry, with warm afternoons but pleasant nights. Friday morning will be relatively cool, with low 60s likely, and a chance of more 50s for the cooler valleys of North Alabama. But, afternoon temperatures are headed up, with upper 80s tomorrow, followed by low 90s on Friday and Saturday. Low dewpoints will make those temperatures fairly comfortable, however. Any showers on these days should be very isolated, and mostly confined to the southern quarter of the state.
SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY: Rain chances are going up on these three days as a front stalls out near the northwest corner of Alabama. Highs will drop back into the mid to upper 80s because of the clouds and occasional showers.
AT THE BEACH: About 7 to 9 hours of sunshine today with only a small risk of a shower; then expect about 4 to 6 hours of sun tomorrow through the weekend with scattered showers and storms each day. Highs along the immediate coast will remain in the upper 80s, with low 90s for inland communities along the coast. The sea water temperature last night at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab was 84 degrees.
VOODOO LAND: Still no sign of a long lasting period of serious heat around here through mid-August, in fact the 00Z GFS suggests temperatures will remain below average as the heat bubble stays out west.
TROPICS: Disturbed weather continues east of the Bahamas, and near Hispanolia, but upper air winds don’t favor any tropical storm formation, and the Atlantic basin remains quiet for now. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.
