Late this morning, moderate to heavy rain continues across NE Alabama, part of a complex that entered Alabama before daybreak and has been moving slowly eastward.
A separate family of storms more to the south has mostly moved east out of the state but there was some very heavy rain with that also.
At 11:30 am, the NE Alabama rain area extended mainly from St. Clair County NE through Etowah County to Dekalb County and east into Cherokee County. At Scrougeout, in NE Etowah County, steady rain is being welcomed because they have been dry much of July. 33/40 Skywatchers report good amounts of rain in Gadsden and Muscadine with 1.38 inches so far today in Muscadine.
We have reports of 3.10 inches last night and early today near Talladega and 2.42 at Alexander City and with over two inches at Munford.
Now we look west where another complex of strong storms and very heavy rain was moving east from West Arkansas, NE and East Texas. During the night that was a very large complex, not as much so now but still needs to be watched. It may arrive in Alabama later today.
Interesting to note that the NWS in Fort Worth issued 23 warnings between 2:19 am and very early this morning including five tornado warnings and a number of Severe Thunderstorm and Flash Flood Warnings.
