LATE REPORT from John Tallbot in Hueytown: H’town PD reporting that Allison Bonnet Memorial Drive in Dolomite is flooded…
There is a distinct boundary moving through the Birmingham area right now. It is accompanied by a brief burst of intense rainfall. But it is not associated with any intense wind by itself. In fact, winds diminish fairly quickly behind the line.
It is approaching West Point, Birmingham, Calera and Billingsley.
Strong winds continue ahead of the boundary, which is associated with a wind shift and pressure jump. I think that it is the colder airmass to the east being pushed out of the way by the airmass from the intensifying low to the west.
Be alert for very intense winds averaging 20-30 mph and gusting over 40 mph at times until the boundary passes. Driving is difficult because of the high winds. Trees and tree limbs will fall with the stronger gusts.
