THIS IS SPRING? We begin the day with lots of snow reports across the northern half of Alabama… as expected, the snow has been very light, and there has been no accumulation. Temperatures are generally just above freezing, mostly in the mid 30s in most spots. We do note our Cheaha SKYCAM is reporting 31 degrees, but of course that is 2,400 feet in elevation just south of Anniston.
REST OF THE DAY: This will be a raw, cold day. Clouds will hang tough, we will have some light precipitation at times (mostly light rain and drizzle with a few snow flakes), and temperatures will struggle to reach the low 40s. Clouds will hang around tonight as the upper low, now right over North Alabama, moves up to East Tennessee.
TOMORROW: More than likely, the clouds will still be in place when you wake up early tomorrow, but we will forecast a clearing sky during the day, with a warmer afternoon. If the sun does come out as expected, we should rise into the mid 60s.
REST OF THE WEEK: Wednesday promises to be a delightful day with a sunny sky and a high in the low 70s. Thursday will be dry, but clouds will increase during the day. A good chance we reach the mid 70s Thursday afternoon; then we will deal with a good chance of showers Thursday night and Friday. The latest GFS runs have not been very aggressive with rain totals; this doesn’t look like a major event with amounts generally under 1/2 inch. And, no cold air involved; the high Friday should stay in the 70s.
THE WEEKEND: Looking generally good. Highs in the 70s with a mix of sun and clouds. There will be some moisture around, and a shower might show up somewhere, but the chance of rain looks very low for now. However, we do expect showers and storms in here Sunday night into Monday morning thanks to a cold front. For now the severe weather/heavy rain threat looks low with this feature.
LONG RANGE: Watch the Weather Xtreme video for some ideas; one thing is for sure… the weather will stay every changeable through the first half of April, and don’t be shocked if we see one or two decent cold snaps that get us down to the freezing mark.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. This week’s new show will be recorded tomorrow night.
