Thanks to ABC 33/40 Skywatcher Kristie Calvin for these images from North Pole, Alaska… she writes:
“Hi James:
Well, I do believe we have seen the snow that will be here until next spring. It started snowing sometime during the night on Sunday and it has not stopped since. I am not sure how many inches we have, but it is certainly piling up! All the roads are snow covered. In our area, the county does not plow the roads. They allow the snow to accumulate and then it becomes packed down as people drive on it. The temperatures are not too bad. We have had highs in the 20’s and lows in the single digits.
Once the temperature stays below 20 degrees, we have to start plugging our cars into electrical outlets so that the oil pan, the battery and the block do not freeze up. Each car is equipped with an oil pan heater, a battery blanket and a block heater. Also, an electrical cord, called a pig tail, sticks out the front of the car. In my car, I carry a 25 ft. extension cord to connect the pig tail to the outlet. Every store and place of business has big concrete posts in the parking lots with outlets for four plugs. So, four cars can plug into one post.
It’s certainly a different world. I hope you enjoy the pictures! As the weather changes, I will keep you posted on what’s happening in my neck of the world!
God bless!”
