A mix of freezing rain, rain, sleet and snow covers the northwestern two thirds of Alabama this afternoon.

Temperatures fell back to at or below freezing across the area as the precipitation evaporated into drier air, causing the air temperature to fall a few degrees.

Bridges are hazardous across the area, covered with slush or a glaze.

Precipitation will continue to develop and spread across the area through the overnight hours. Temperatures will remain steady then begin rising slowly during the night, but it make take several hours for them to get to freezing, so travel will remain hazardous through much of the night. Travel is not advised in areas covered by winter weather advisories. Here is a map of current National Weather Service winter weather advisories, winter storm watches and winter storm warnings.
