Lately I have been inspired and pushed to take my new forecasting knowledge a little further and write weather summaries every Tuesday. These weather summaries will help me with my weather lingo and give me a narrowed perspective of what is to come. I also have felt the pressure build in having to make sure it is accurate, long enough, and on time. Here’s a hint of my work so far:
The Daily Weather with Leah Dailey 7/17/07
Temperatures across the state of Alabama will remain below normal compared to an average summer July day. Most areas will only reach mid to upper 80’s. These lower temps are due to increased cloud cover over Alabama. By the afternoon these clouds are going to continue to pop up and increase our chances of rain. As with all summer showers, these chances are hit or miss; however, if you’re lucky enough to get hit then you could receive a good soaking for up to an hour. I bet those plants or dusty cars won’t complain about that! If you happen to not be lucky today, you still have the rest of the week to grab a few droplets of rain. The best chance of rain will be Friday, yet the rest of the week is still following that summer recipe with mixed sun and clouds. By Sunday the sun will be more visible and will heat things back up in the 90’s.
Looking at what is happening across the nation; a low pressure system is located in southeast Texas and parts of western Louisiana. This system is dragging its way across central Alabama and even eastern Mississippi. This is helping to produce some of our cloud cover.

I’m hoping that once I have more of my Meteorology classes under my belt I will find more of the technical things to talk about. This should help with my speed and length. I realize that the key aspect I can benefit from is frequent practicing and soaking up the input from the fellow weather nerds at abc 33/40.
