Breezy Saturday, Fall Weekend in Store
A strong, dry cold front pushed through Alabama yesterday, and much cooler drier air been filtering into the state throughout the night. This weekend will feature highs and lows quite seasonable for this time of year with elevated winds today. As we head into next week, an upper-level ridge from the west will cause temperatures to increase each day. Alabama will remain rain-free through the 7 day period. Continue reading
Isaias Remnants Brings Wind and Rain to Northern Half Today
Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida, last night at 8:30 p.m. as a Category 2 Hurricane. It is now a Post-Tropical Cyclone with its rainbands impacting the northern half of the state and much of Georgia this morning. Power outages statewide have reached 319,000 as of about 6 a.m. this morning. As we head into the day today, south Alabama will be mostly dry today, with just a shower or two possible. The northern half of the state will continue to see wind and rain throughout the day today, picking up an additional 2 to 4 inches. Highs will be in the mid to upper 60s to the low 70s statewide. These strong winds and heavy rains keep the risk of downed trees and power lines and flash flooding elevated, so although the storm has weakened, continue to stay weather aware today.

Rainy Sunday, Drying Trend To Follow
A stalled frontal boundary bisecting the state and Gulf moisture being advected from the south will cause today to be a rainy day statewide. Rainfall totals will differ, with south Alabama expecting to see the highest amounts. Cooler, drier air moves in behind the front tomorrow, diminishing rain chances everywhere but the south, which could see a few lingering showers. The state will trend drier throughout the week, and although highs won’t be in the pleasant fall 70s, they will provide some relief compared to the low 90s we experienced last week. Continue reading

Warm and Dry Conditions Persist
Alabama sits between an upper-level ridge to the west and an upper-level trough to the east, causing northwesterly flow into the region, keeping the air less hot and drier through the beginning of this week. We will slowly shift into a warmer pattern later this week as the upper-level ridge spreads into the region. Continue reading

Heat For Just a Few More Days
We have to endure a few more days of summer-like weather here in Alabama before a pattern change to cooler and drier weather occurs later this week. The upper-level ridge responsible for our extended hot temperatures will keep its influence over the Southeast through Tuesday, then upper-level troughing from the northeast will dig into the Southeast, pushing a cold front through the region Tuesday into Wednesday. Continue reading
Still Hot Today, Scattered Storms Possible
The weather over the next week will be slightly rainier than it has been recently, and although this weekend and early next week will be hot, we’ll start to see a cooling trend toward the end of next week. Higher rain chances this weekend are due to an upper-low in the Gulf increasing moisture and the upper-level ridge moving westward some. The “cooldown” next week is thanks to an upper-level trough that will dig into the Southeast. Continue reading
