Hot and Mostly Dry This Week
Dry and hot is the story for this week as the upper-level ridge builds back into the Southeast today and this week. Ridges encourage sinking air, which does not encourage shower development. Highs will easily be in the low to mid 90s, at least, increasing into the upper 90s a few times early this week. Continue reading
Showery Saturday Ahead
It’ll be a rainier day today with the chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms much higher than we’ve seen recently due to a shortwave causing the upper-level ridge to weaken momentarily. Rain chances decrease dramatically on Sunday as we return quickly to the hot and mostly dry pattern we’ve grown so used to as the ridge builds back over the Tennessee Valley. It will sit over the region all week next week, bringing no relief from the summer pattern, sorry fall-lovers! Continue reading
Hot Sunday, Scattered Storms This Afternoon
Another hot day is in store for the state, and it will be a stormy day as well. This is thanks to a “cold” front that plans to push through Alabama today. Most of the state will see strong to marginally severe thunderstorms with damaging winds as their main threat. As we head into the week, highs will not be as intense as they have been this past week, but it will still be hot, and showers and thunderstorms will still be scattered in the afternoon and evening. Continue reading
Heat Continues Today, Scattered Storms This Afternoon
The heat is here to stay this weekend and next week, as the upper-level ridge keeping us hot sticks around. A frontal passage this weekend will bring a low chance for severe thunderstorms to the northeast today and much of central and south Alabama tomorrow, but washouts aren’t expected. Scattered storms and hot highs are the forecast for Labor Day and the week ahead. Continue reading
Drier Week Ahead, Showers South Today
We continue to move into a hotter and drier pattern this week as an upper-level ridge to the west pushes its way into the Southeast. Most of the state’s rain chances will be low over the next seven days, but the southwest may see rainier days, especially today and tomorrow due to the weak low-pressure system moving west in the Gulf. Continue reading
Low Rain Chances This Weekend
We enter a drier and hotter pattern this weekend, but the higher chance for rain this week is this weekend in the south where scattered afternoon storms could develop each day. Otherwise, an upper-level ridge will build into the region throughout the next seven days, bringing hotter highs and lower rain chances. Continue reading
Mostly Dry Today, Storms Possible South
An upper-level ridge to the west and an upper-level trough to the north causes Alabama to sit under a northwest flow throughout the week. This will allow scattered to numerous afternoon showers and thunderstorms to develop every day this week. The rainier pattern will keep the state a little less hot than it has been the past couple of weeks, but it is still August in Alabama. South Alabama has a low-end severe weather threat today through Tuesday. Continue reading
Drier Weekend Ahead
As we head into the weekend and the last week of August, we finally break out of the hot, isolated thunderstorm pattern. The ridge responsible for that weather will sit over the Western U.S. this week, keeping us on its eastern edge. This will allow shortwave energy to move through Alabama throughout the week. This means we’ll be in a bit of an unsettled pattern, with storm complexes possibly pushing through Monday through Friday next week. The stormier conditions will keep us less hot. Before that, this weekend will be on the dry side. Continue reading

Persistent Heat, Storms Possible in the Southeast
The heat keeps its grip on Alabama this weekend and most of next week as the upper-level ridge sits over the Southeast with little plans of moving. Southeast Alabama has a low-end severe weather threat this afternoon, and northeast Alabama has one Monday afternoon. A Heat Advisory is in effect statewide at least through the weekend. Continue reading
