Scattered Showers Mostly South for Sunday

Today will be drier across the state compared to yesterday, but rain chances aren’t gone completely. Tomorrow and Tuesday are similar, with highs mostly in the upper 80s. Rain chances stick around as an upper-level trough digs into the state and the Southeast. Wednesday through Friday will be back into the low 90s as an upper-level ridge to the west kicks the trough out of the region and rain chances dwindle, then rain chances increase again on Saturday.  Continue reading →

Scattered Showers Today, Storms Tonight

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible through the day today before an organized line pushes through Alabama along a cold front this evening, bringing a low threat of severe weather. Tomorrow through Tuesday will feature low to medium rain chances with no severe weather threat and highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s. The second half of the week will be drier as an upper-level ridge begins to move over the state, keeping rain chances limited and high temperatures hotter. Continue reading →

Dry North, Hot and Stormy South

The northern two-thirds of the state will be dry today, while south Alabama could see strong to marginally severe storms this afternoon and evening, but not before they heat up again. Tomorrow sees the end of the heat as rain is expected across the southern half of the state, and the northern half enjoys one more dry day. We enter a wet pattern this weekend as a low-pressure system moves north and sends a cold front through the state. Rain chances will stay in the medium to high range until an attempt to dry out is made next Wednesday. Continue reading →

Front Brings Rain, South Still Hot

A cold front will push through Alabama today in response to an upper-level trough over the Eastern U.S. digging further south. It will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms, cloudy skies, and lower high temperatures to the northern half of the state. The southern half of the state will experience one more hot day before the front reaches the region in the evening. Showers and thunderstorms will have a low chance of becoming severe. Behind the front on Thursday, most of the state will be dry, but the front will linger over south Alabama, keeping scattered afternoon thunderstorms with a low severe threat in the forecast. The heat, however, will be suppressed. A similar forecast is expected Friday, but severe weather should no longer be of concern. This weekend, a low-pressure system will push through states to our north, bringing higher rain chances to Alabama through the beginning of next week. Continue reading →

Hottest Day of the Week Today, Mostly Dry

Today will be the hottest day of the week and mostly dry as the upper-level ridge to the west has its strongest hold on the state. To our east, an upper-level trough will dig further into the Eastern United States today and tomorrow, sending a cold front through Alabama Tuesday evening through Wednesday. This will bring higher rain chances and cooler temperatures to the state tomorrow. Thursday and Friday will be on the drier side in the northern two-thirds of the state while a few showers will be possible in the south, but overall Alabama will not be as hot. Rain chances increase into the weekend and Monday as we continue to feel the relief of slightly cooler temperatures. Continue reading →

Hot Start to the Week, Scattered Storms Expected

Showers and thunderstorms move through the northern half of the state this morning, then move into the southern half of the state this afternoon. No severe weather outlooks are in place from 7 a.m. onward, but a strong thunderstorm or two is possible statewide today. Heat will also be a concern today. Tomorrow will be mostly dry as convection is suppressed by the upper-level ridge we sit on the eastern edge of. It will be the hottest day of the week as the absence of showers and heavy cloud cover will allow the state to heat up easily. Heat tries to ease up in the northern half of the state Wednesday, and scattered showers are possible. Storms that develop in the southeast in the afternoon will have a low chance of being severe. We’ll end the week with isolated to scattered rain chances and less hot highs. Rain chances pick up slightly this weekend before a cool-off is possible on Sunday. Continue reading →

Showers Decrease, Heat Increases This Week

Showers and thunderstorms will be scattered again today with less coverage expected. This week we will sit on the eastern edge of an upper-level ridge to the west that will keep us hot and mostly dry through Wednesday. Then an upper-level trough to the east begins to dig into the Eastern U.S., and as we sit on its western edge, it will bring highs and rain chances back to normal. There is a low chance for a storm complex to push through Alabama Monday, but quite a few uncertainties exist with this portion of the forecast. Continue reading →

Showers Scattered This Weekend, Heat Builds Next Week

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected statewide again today as an upper-level shortwave passes through the northern half of the state, and the stationary front hangs out in north-central Alabama again today. The southern half of the state will see normal diurnally driven thunderstorms. The northern half of the state stays wet through the night and tomorrow morning before storms move south into the southern half of the state Sunday afternoon. The beginning of next week will be hot with lower rain chances as we sit on the eastern edge of a strong upper-level ridge to the west. As its influences move back to the west for the second half of the week, heat levels return to normal, as do rain chances. Continue reading →
